Lawn care in the Hills: what to know
Three kinds of property. The Hills mixes established suburbs like Baulkham Hills and Castle Hill, newer estates in Box Hill, Gables and North Kellyville with smaller lots and new turf, and acreage in the north of the Shire. Each needs different equipment, from push mowers on tight estate lots to ride-ons on acreage. Our providers bring the right gear for your property.
Your green bin. The Hills Shire Council collects green garden bins fortnightly, alternating with the yellow recycling bin. In spring a single mow can fill it, so our providers can take clippings away for you. From 1 October 2027 the council’s FOGO service makes green bins weekly and adds food waste, and rural properties without a green bin will get one.
Grass and mowing frequency. Most Hills lawns are warm-season grasses such as buffalo, kikuyu and couch. They grow fast from spring to early autumn, so mowing every 1 to 2 weeks keeps them healthy, then every 3 to 4 weeks through winter.
